SUCCESS STORY

Process
Adult Education theories and principles were presented to the participants in an introductory exercise that contrasted the differences in teaching styles needed for K through 12 and adult learners. An engaging set of group exercises illustrated effective strategies that work well with adult learners. The session ended with a lively brainstorming and question-answer session on real-life mentoring challenges faced by the participants.

Deliverables
IPT&E and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction met several times to assess the needs of the teacher mentors. The result was a well-crafted program agenda, concise printed materials, and an attractive electronic slide presentation that helped assure the success of the workshop. Handout packages for each of the participants contained adult education materials, instructional theories and strategies, as well as practical exercises to use when mentoring peers.
